Who chooses the methods used? In most cases, the client comes to us with some idea of what they want to achieve as their medium and long term goals. Based on their goals, it is a fairly straight forward decision on which methods to use. What is NLP? Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a powerful body of information about how the human mind works and provides more understanding how people think, behave and change. What is Life Coaching? Coaching is a partnering process that helps you to unlock your full potential allowing you to achieve what you want. It is also an empowering process that allows you to bridges the gap between where you are today and where you would like to be. How is NLP used? NLP has a wide range of practical applications in business (e.g. management, personnel, sales, consulting), training and development, education, dyslexia, the helping professions, health, relationships, writing and the arts, sports, parenting, hobbies and personal development – anywhere communicating and excelling are important. How is Coaching used? Skilled coaches clearly show you how to discover what you truly want, learn what is really stopping you get what you want, remove your blocks and problems and finally to create action and take the steps required to achieve the reaction that you want for yourself – your goal. When you suddenly see a business take off, or somebody you know become more focused and start making changes that lead to successes, they have found a coach. What is Coaching? Being coached is a fundamentally positive experience for the coachee and the coach. In a session you look at your strengths rather than your weaknesses. By using your strengths in an unpleasant or burdensome situation you can change your perspective on it so you can see a solution or a way out of it. The coach will ask you a lot of questions to help you clarify your situation, to establish what is important to you and what your values are. The coach does not give advice or answers – you yourself already have the answers but are (not yet) aware if them. The coach gives you support to create an ideal life for yourself. It is up to you if you take big steps to find a new direction in your life or start with a few smaller ones to ‘test the waters’. You decide what you want to talk about in each session. You get support in developing new ideas and using the coach as a sounding board. The coach is alongside you in this process of positive change, not above you giving advice or behind you pushing. Coaching is oriented towards goal setting and encourages you to move forward. Coaching looks to the future, the past does not play into forward planning. Coaching can be done in a face-to-face meeting or via the telephone if you travel or have a busy schedule. What is Counselling? In the context of mental health, “counselling” is generally used to denote a relatively brief treatment that mainly focuses upon behaviour. It often targets a particular symptom or problematic situation and offers suggestions and advice for dealing with it. With us, counselling takes on the form of educational and professional guidance or advising. The territory the counsellor covers is more specialized, i.e., school guidance counselling or addiction program counselling, to name but a couple of examples. Our work with clients often encompasses educational interaction and a defined structure. The counsellor will assist the client in his or her recovery and this will be the main focus of the intervention. Marital issues, depression or anxiety may or may not be addressed, but they are not the focus of the intervention. Counsellors can help with most problems faced in everyday life – relationships with family, friends, spouse, partner; challenges at school or the workplace; personal choices; personal growth; religious and spiritual questions. |
